Why has the Westboro Baptist Church been suspended on Twitter?

The adamantly homophobic Westboro Baptist Church appears to have had its main Twitter account suspended.

The church, known worldwide for its “God Hates Fags” slogan, and which regularly pickets the funerals of US servicepeople and pop stars, had the account @WBCSays suspended today.

It is unclear why the account has been suspended now, given the vile and offensive tweets sent regularly by WBC, and the church’s other Twitter accounts, @WBCSigns and @WBCSaysRepent are still active, but have not mentioned why the main account has been shut down.

Update: According to @WBCShirl2, the reason the account was suspended was because the church picketed Twitter at the end of last year.

The church recently protested a Christian conference, over the performance of openly gay singer Vicky Beeching.

The church also recently filed a strange legal brief in the state of Kansas, demanding the right to challenge same-sex marriage.

A police officer was derided by the Westboro Baptist Church, after sharing a kiss with his boyfriend in front of their protest.
