Everything you need to know about Doctor Who season two and new companion Belinda Chandra

Doctor Who season 2

Doctor Who (BBC)

The TARDIS is landing once again, and this time, it’s bringing a new sense of adventure, mystery, a brand-new companion played by Varada Sethu, not to mention a Doctor who has already stolen the hearts of fans.

Doctor Who season 2 (or series 15 if you’re a purist) featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Time Lord, will premiere on April 12 on BBC iPlayer and air on BBC One that same day in the UK, and expectations are sky-high for the long-running sci-fi saga.

Following a thrilling first season under returning showrunner Russell T Davies’, Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor is fully stepping into his role, and alongside him, a new companion will be taking a leap into the unknown.

The Doctor’s new companion is named Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) and audiences will join the pair as they embark on an “epic quest to get Belinda back to Earth”, according to the BBC.

“But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-travelling TARDIS team must face great dangers, ferocious enemies and wilder terrors than ever before.”

Varada Sethu spoke to Doctor Who magazine in February about taking on the role of new companion Belinda, explaining: “Since I’ve started, it’s just been so much fun. It’s all been at breakneck speed: I got the script for Episode 1 about two weeks before we started. And then, obviously, each storyline and each setting is something else… It’s a new world. It’s a whole new timeline – appropriately enough! It’s absolutely incredible. It’s been a wild ride…”

Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), who was the Doctor’s only companion in season one, will also be returning for the new series.

Rumors and teasers suggest an emotional, action-packed season that blends Doctor Who’s classic storytelling with fresh, bold ideas.

As always, the BBC has packed the show with a stunning list of guest stars, including Rylan Clark, Alan Cumming, Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE, Jemma Redgrave, Freddie Fox, Bonnie Langford, and many, many more.

Anita Dobson has also been confirmed to be returning as the mysterious Mrs Flood.

Freddie Fox is expected to play a “fearsome villain from another planet” in an upcoming episode, previously telling fans that “televisions are on course to explode right across the world” if people “enjoy watching it half as much as I did making it”.

International fans will be able to watch Doctor Who season 2 on Disney+ and releasing episodes simultaneously across different time zones.

With Davies at the helm and Gatwa’s infectious energy leading the way, this new series is shaping up to be an electrifying continuation of the Doctor’s ever-expanding journey.

Buckle up, Whovians—it’s time for another trip through time and space.
