Madison Beer has spoken about identifying as bisexual, saying she feels it’s important to talk about it because of her closeted grandfather.

The singer-songwriter first came out publicly as LGBTQ+ in 2016, but has continued to face questions from journalists and fans.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan recently, Madison Beer said: “I’m like: ‘Yeah, I don’t really know why you give a f**k that I want to date a girl’,” she said. “I’ve never understood homophobic people because I’m just like, ‘Why are you affected by someone else’s sexual preference?’

“It doesn’t affect me unless I’m trying to sleep with you and you don’t want to sleep with me. I like to speak about it because I know how much the gay community has been through.”

She went on to reveal that her grandfather was queer but wasn’t able to be out and proud as she can be nowadays.

“My grandfather married a woman and had three children with her because he was trying to convert himself. It makes me so upset that we live in this world where you can’t just be who you are.”

Beer went on to describe herself as “a bit needy” when it comes to love. “I love all the attention in the world, which sometimes means I shoot myself in the foot because obviously no one can give me that all the time. But I’m just a lover girl. I’m sure my boyfriend would have a different answer.”

She is currently dating TikToker Nick Austin.

She also spoke about having nude content released publicly when she was just 15, after she sent pictures and videos to a boy on Snapchat she was dating. The images were later leaked online.

Beer added: “The boy who the whole nude situation happened with, he reached out to me and was like: ‘I had no idea that I hurt you like this. I’m so sorry’.

“I don’t know how it feels to be a 14-year-old boy receiving photos of a girl. Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I don’t think he was being malicious showing them to his friends. He was a kid.”
