A pro-LGBTQ+ singer who infiltrated a “straight Pride event” managed to sing about a trans man before being booted out.
Mark Fitzpatrick, the owner of the Old State Saloon, in Boise, Idaho, hosted the Hetero Awesome Fest, last weekend. The event’s website proclaimed that it “ain’t your limp-waisted woke fest”, but instead “a full-on celebration of family values with guts”.
KTVB reported that only 50 people attended.
The line-up of singers on Saturday (21 June) included Daniel Hamrick. He arrived in a baseball cap and buttoned-up plaid shirt but quickly changed into a t-shirt with the message: “Keep Canyon Country queer.”
He later put on a jacket adorned with badges, including a rainbow heart and a pink triangle, the symbol used during the Nazi era to identify queer men in the concentration camps, before introducing his first song, “Boy.”
The opening lyrics appear to be about a trans man: “They put him in ballet, he wants to play ball. What matters to him doesn’t matter at all.” The live feed of the performance was cut before Hamrick ended his song and he was quickly ushered off the stage.

It was reported by KTVB that only 50 people ended up attending the event. On Saturday, musician Daniel Hamrick was welcomed to the stage to perform, as seen in videos captured from the festival’s livestream. He arrived in a baseball hat and button-up plaid shirt, but quickly changed on-stage into a t-shirt which read: "Keep Canyon County Queer". He later put on a jacket with badges including a rainbow heart and the pink triangle, before introducing his first (and only) song "Boy". The opening lyrics of the song made it clear this was about a transgender man: "They put him in ballet, he wants to play ball/What matters to him doesn’t matter at all". The live feed was cut before the end of Hamrick's song, and the singer was ushered off stage. Fitzpatrick told KTVB that Hamrick’s lyrics “go against our values,” and that “the Pride community” are “liars and deceivers [who] victimize children.” #boise #heteroawesomefest #hetero #pridemonth #musician #lgbtqia ♬ original sound – PinkNews 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Fitzpatrick told KTVB that the song’s lyrics “go against our values,” and that “the Pride community” are “liars and deceivers [who] victimise children”. He has previously said Pride month was about queer people marching down the street “doing disgusting and criminal activities while demanding to be celebrated, [and] the LGBTQ agenda is wicked, perverse and victimises children”.
An Instagram post announcing the event was flooded with comments, including one that read: “Finally, a safe space for people who say ‘no homo’ after making eye contact.”
