Sabrina Carpenter shares sweet Pride message after raising $1 million for LGBTQ+ causes

Sabrina Carpenter has shown everyone what a real ally looks, by raising more than $1 million (£727,000) to help good causes, including LGBTQ+ charities.

In less than a year, the singer raised the cash through her Sabrina Carpenter Fund, in collaboration with Plus1.

She launched the fund during her Short n’ Sweet tour and helped it become Plus1’s fastest-growing artist fund to date.

Carpenter has focused her support on community-driven organisations such as the UK-based suicide prevention centre Papyrus, and the global LGBTQ+ charity Rainbow Railroad. She has also backed the Jed Foundation which works with teenagers with mental-health issues and to prevent suicide.

Speaking to Forbes, Carpenter said: “Less than a year ago, I launched a fund with PLUS1 to help support some of the issue areas that matter most to me: mental health, animal welfare and LGBTQ+ rights.

“I’m so grateful that I get to use my platform to amplify the work of incredible organisations like the Jed Foundation, Papyrus and Rainbow Railroad.” She called the work of the group “truly life-changing”.

Addressing her queer fans specifically, Carpenter said: “As Pride comes to a close, I want to send so much love to my LGBTQ+ fans. You’ve always shown up for me and I’m committed to showing up for you. Thank you for always uplifting me, making me laugh and showing how special it is to be authentically yourself.”

Plus1’s chief executive Marika Anthony-Shaw applauded Carpenter’s “strong sense of purpose and leadership”, telling Forbes: “She’s deeply thoughtful about the causes she supports [and] proves that when you give artists the right infrastructure and strategic partnership, they can have consequential and significant, actionable impact.”
