The first trailer for I Wish You All The Best, which marks Tommy Dorfman’s directorial debut, has arrived.

The film, based on Mason Deaver’s novel, follows Ben de Backer, played by Corey Fogelmanis, who is thrown out of their parents’ home after coming out as non-binary.

“With nowhere else to turn, Ben moves in with their estranged older sister and her husband. After enrolling in a new school, Ben finds support from an eccentric art teacher and forms an unexpected bond with a kind-hearted student,” the film’s official synopsis reveals.

“With the help of their new relationships, Ben navigates the awkward hurdles of young adulthood in this sweetly funny journey of self-discovery that celebrates the power of being true to yourself.”

The trailer shows Ben reuniting with sister Hannah (Alexandra Daddario) and her husband Thomas (Fogelmanis’ former fellow Disney star Cole Spouse) and join a new school where they struggle to identify as either male or female.

We then see Ben explaining being non-binary to Hannah and Thomas. “Like Demi Lovato,” Thomas says. Ben clarifies that the actress, who formerly used they/them pronouns, now uses she/her again.

Alongside scenes of love and acceptance, Ben’s parents insist their child is a boy. When he is told “you are a warrior” by his teacher, Ben replies: “It doesn’t feel that way.”

Director Tommy Dorfman also wrote the screenplay.
