The Mitchell family is set to be torn apart in upcoming scenes in EastEnders, as Callum Highway’s affair with Johnny Carter is set to be exposed.

Over the past few weeks, Callum (Tony Clay) and Johnny (Charlie Suff) have found themselves drawn to one another yet again, following last year’s shock kiss between the pair.

During his mum Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) relapse, Johnny had kissed his pal, after Callum offered his friend some comforting words of guidance.

Callum pulled away and rejected Johnny’s advances, considering he’s still married to Albert Square’s former hardman Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), despite Ben currently being in prison in the US for fraud.

Yet during the Square’s recent Pride festivities, the pair shared another kiss at the Prince Albert – leading to Johnny’s partner Felix (Matthew James Morrison) leaving the square with his bestie Bernie (Clair Norris).

In scenes set to air over the next week, Callum and Johnny will find themselves in each other’s arms once again, before their secret romance is exposed to the worst possible person – Ben’s tough nut, volatile father Phil (Steve McFadden).

The mess begins when Prince Albert owner Cindy (Michelle Collins) lets rip on Callum for his kiss with Johnny, considering it drove her best employee Felix away from Walford.

Ben’s young daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown) overhears the row, and Callum is forced to take matters into his own hands. He tells Johnny that they can only be friends, but one thing leads to another, and the pair end up in a romantic tryst once again.

Callum once again tries to cool things off with Johnny, but can’t resist his charm, and the pair end up in bed together again. Yet after Phil is invited upstairs in the Queen Vic by Linda, he catches his son-in-law in bed with Johnny, and explodes.

It’s up to Phil’s fellow family members Jay (Jamie Borthwick) and Billy (Perry Fenwick) to try and stop the argument from breaking out into violence, while Jay later tries to convince Phil that it’s not worth informing Ben about the affair.

Callum, too, tries to stop Phil from revealing all to his husband, but the hot-headed patriarch seems set on seeing their marriage crumble.

It remains to be seen as to whether Callum and Johnny will be able to resist each other, or whether Callum and Ben’s marriage could be doomed for good.

Since his arrival on the square in 2018, Callum has become a firm fan favourite, while his relationship with Ben has been staunchly celebrated by the fandom – even earning the sweet couple name “Ballum”.

Yet their relationship has been trickier to celebrate following Bowden’s departure from the soap – and therefore Ben’s departure from the Square – last year.

Johnny Carter made his first EastEnders appearance back in 2013, and has been part of one of the soap’s most impactful LGBTQ+ storylines: the death of his boyfriend Paul Coker (Jonny Labey), who was murdered in a homophobic attack in 2016.

EastEnders airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm BST on BBC One, and streams each day on BBC iPlayer from 6am.
