David Corenswet may be currently making waves in Superman but one of his earliest screen roles was a queer teen.
The latest Superman has Corenswet’s Man of Steel facing up to Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. But many of his fans have been letting the world know that they have followed the star’s career since spotting him in The Politician in 2019.
Corenswet played River Barkley, and the first episode of the Netflix show established the character as a typical much-liked high-school guy. But he also had a relationship with Ben Platt’s character Payton Hobart.
However, River seems disconnected from everything, which ultimately leads to tragedy.

One fan wrote on Twitter/X that they were “getting ready to clock in to a busy week of telling everyone who mentions Superman to me that I already know David Corenswet from Ryan Murphy’s The Politician and [mini-series] Hollywood.”
Another person posted that they “fell in love” with the star as River, while someone else remembered “all the hype about how he should be the next Superman” after watching him in The Politician.
On TikTok, one user posted a fan-edit of Corenswet in The Politician and Hollywood writing: “Can’t wait for his edits in July.”
In fact, there are more than a few fan-cams of the star in his earlier roles.
Superman is due to open on Friday (11 July).
