The return of “camp, chaotic legend” Oscar Branning has left gay EastEnders fans thrilled, with the teenage troublemaker confirming that he “swings both ways”.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Tuesday night’s (July 15) episode of EastEnders.

In last night’s episode (14 July), 18-year-old Oscar Branning returned to Albert Square for the first time in almost a decade, and for the first time as an adult.

This time around, the cheeky teen – who is back on the Square having just finished a stint at a young offenders institute for joyriding – is played by British actor Pierre Moullier.

Last night’s episode saw him reacquainted with his sister Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), and meet her chiseled boyfriend, Peter (Thomas Law).

Upon clasping eyes on Peter, he became instantly flirtatious, and gave LGBTQ+ EastEnders fans something to get excited over.

He instantly called Peter a “smash” as soon as he spotted him, and later branded him “Hot Pete”. He also reassured his sister that he wouldn’t try and sleep with her partner, even if “Hot Pete” came onto him.

The episode saw Oscar Branning drop several hints that he might be gay, or at least bisexual. In one scene, he hid from his former criminal associates behind a van with Lauren, Peter, and Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt). While telling Lauren about his ex cronies, he dubbed Frank as “the worst one” but also “the fit one”.

In tonight’s EastEnders episode (15 July), which is currently streaming on BBC iPlayer, the youngster wakes up naked on a sofa and jokingly asks Peter if he likes what he sees.

Then, later on in the episode, he reveals to his uncle Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) that he is in fact bisexual.

Jack questions him on why he was flirting with Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James), suggesting that she isn’t “his type” as she’s “a girl”.

In response, Oscar says he “swings both ways” and previously had a girlfriend while locked up – but discovered he might be bisexual as he fancied her dad more.

In just two episodes, Oscar has unleashed enough one-liners for fans of the BBC soap to declare him the Square’s newest icon.

“I don’t care what you miserable people say, I LOVE Oscar Branning. Make HIM The Vic’s new landlady,” urged one fan on X.

“Absolutely obsessed with camp chaotic legend Oscar Branning #EastEnders,” wrote a second.

“Give a pay rise to whoever cast this kid who’s more Max Branning than actual Max Branning, what a perfect casting, refreshing as hell, funny as f**k, just brilliant brilliant intro,” A third added. “Very much looking forward to more of Oscar. #Eastenders.”

A fourth gushed: “Oscar Branning came in and instantly outperformed every other teen on this show.”

Who plays bisexual teen Oscar Branning in EastEnders?

Oscar Branning in EastEnders is played by British actor Pierre Moullier, who is best known for his roles on stage.

Twenty-five-year-old Pierre Moullier has performed in productions including The Surplus, The Second Woman and My England at London’s Young Vic, and in The Grand Duke of Florence at Shakespeare’s Globe.

He began his career as a child, in Cries from the Heart at the Royal Court Theatre, aged just seven. In 2009, he scored his first TV role in the BAFTA-nominated comedy drama Cast Offs.

Speaking about joining EastEnders as Oscar Branning, Moullier said that it was “pretty surreal”.

“When I found out I was joining the Brannings, it was so exciting as they are such an iconic family, and I love that there are so many skeletons in the closet,” he said, adding that the character is “so much fun to play, and the audience should be prepared for the unexpected as he’s a complex guy”.

Oscar Branning was previously played by twins Neo and Charlee Hall, until 2017, when the character left the show.

EastEnders airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm BST on BBC One, and streams each day on BBC iPlayer from 6am.
