Early reviews of the new Fantastic Four: First Steps film starring Pedro Pascal are praising it as one of the “best” films in recent Marvel history.

Fantastic Four: First Steps sees the return of the infamous, high-powered quartet, with The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal playing leading man Mister Fantastic. The Bear actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach joins the cast as The Thing, while Pieces of a Woman actress Vanessa Kirby is Invisible Woman. Stranger Things and Gladiator II star Joseph Quinn rounds off the fearsome foursome as the Human Torch.

As per the film’s official synopsis, Fantastic Four: First Steps sees the clan “forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond”.

“The Fantastic Four must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer.”

Villains Galactus and Silver Surfer are played by The Green Knight and Nosferatu actor Ralph Ineson and Ozark and Inventing Anna actress Julia Garner respectively.

While Fantastic Four: First Steps doesn’t land in cinemas until Friday 25 July, some lucky folk have been able to see the film early, and have shared their bite-sized reviews online.

Thankfully, it seems to have gone down a storm, with Pedro Pascal being dubbed “fantastic” and the film as a whole being lauded as “visually stunning” and one for the “Marvel Cinematic Universe history books”.

“#FantasticFour is excellent. An exhilarating shot of adrenaline,” wrote one viewer on X/Twitter. “Ebon-Moss & Joseph Quinn nail the banter & Kirby-like stunts. Pedro Pascal is absolutely fantastic. Vanessa Kirby leads the team. Big action set pieces are thrilling. Lots of love to the comics in this multi-layered thematic resonance.”

Fantastic Four: First Steps is the best the team has ever looked on screen. Vanessa Kirby is the standout, Pedro brings a fresh take to Reed, and the cast chemistry is unreal. 10/10,” raved a second.

“#TheFantasticFour is on par w/ #Superman when it comes to a story about hope, love & family. It’s also probably the easiest access point for people that want to get into Marvel. Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn & Ebon Moss-Bachrach were fantastic. But Vanessa Kirby? Oh she ate,” a third teased.

A fourth shared: “Fantastic 4 was… fantastic. I went into it truthfully with low-ish expectations. But… this movie deserves hype. People were on the edge of their seats. Our main 4 are perfectly cast and this got me wildly excited for the future of Marvel. More of this, please.”

Others have dubbed the film a “masterpiece” with “pitch perfect performances” and “perfect chemistry” between the four leads.

“#FantasticFour is incredible. Marvel’s First Family finally gets the film they deserve. Every one understood the assignment and I mean EVERYONE.  This is the MCU at its absolute best,” another enthused.

The tale of the Fantastic Four has been told on several occasions previously, most recently a decade ago in 2015. Yet the film, which featured Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell in the four title roles, was critically panned. It currently has a Metascore of 27 out of 100.

Marvel regained the film rights to the Fantastic Four characters back in 2019, after Marvel’s parent company Disney merged with 21st Century Fox.

Fantastic Four: First Steps is out on 25 July.
