It’s been confirmed that Netflix’s Wednesday will be returning for season three – and that’s before season two has even debuted!
The news was confirmed by the series’ lead, Jenna Ortega, as well as director Tim Burton in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (THR). Asked how many seasons the show could run for, Burton replied: “I don’t think that way. You’re talking to two of the worst people to ask that question.”
According to the lore established in Wednesday season one, a student has seven years at Nevermore Academy. So, theoretically there could be seven seasons in total. And, to bolster that, showrunner Alfred Gough told THR that he hoped to keep Wednesday in school for that duration.
It was also confirmed in the same feature that a spin-off of Wednesday is in the works. Gough told the publication, “It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at.” And Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria added: “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”

On X/Twitter, Netflix also released a poster showing Wednesday with a crystal ball containing the number ‘3’. The images was posted alongside a promo for season 2 and “Season 3 is the next omen, already in motion, already inevitable.” The poster itself says, “Bad things come in threes.”
It’s an announcement we certainly weren’t expecting so soon given that season two – set for release on 6 August – isn’t out and also hasn’t received any reviews yet. If you recall, The Last of Us was renewed for a third season prior to the second season’s first episode, but following a bunch of good reviews.
So, we hope that we can take the series renewal as a positive sign from Netflix that season two will be just as good, if not better, than the first. And the first did pretty well, generating 252 million views globally making it the streamer’s biggest English-language series of all time.

Season two will see Wednesday (Ortega) return to Nevermore where there is another mystery to solve. And this time, Wednesday’s friend and roommate, Enid (Emma Myers), is at the centre of it.
The season’s second trailer showed Wednesday having a premonition of her friend’s grave and admitting, “It’s all my fault.” We don’t know enough yet but we, like many, loved Enid in the first season. So, we’re keen to see Wednesday find a way to avoid her friend meeting a terrible fate.
As well as Ortega and Myers, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, are returning as Morticia, Gomez and Pugsley respectively. Hunter Doohan will be back as Tyler/Hyde. They will be joined by newcomers Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley, and Lady Gaga.
The first half of Wednesday season two arrives on Netflix on 6 August, with the second half following on 3 September.
Season one of Wednesday is streaming on Netflix now.
