Stand clear of the closing doors, please. Chappell Roan is finally releasing “The Subway”, and this is when the star is set to drop her heartbreaking new single.
Roan started drumming up hype for an official release of “The Subway” at the beginning of July after appearing to film the accompanying music video and planting posters in New York City.
Of course, long-term “Popstars” will know that the upcoming track was an unreleased fan-favourite, which Roan previously shared her concerns about recording in the studio.
When is ‘The Subway’ by Chappell Roan coming out?
After teasing the upcoming single for what feels like forever, the “Pink Pony Club” hitmaker has finally given fans a date to get on board.
And new music from Roan is only a few stops away. On Monday (28 July), Roan confirmed with a very Rapunzel-esque image that “The Subway” is out on Thursday (31 July) at 8 pm EST.
For those overseas, you can catch “The Subway” at midnight on Friday in the UK, and at 10 am on Friday AEST.
Her announcement follows a video teaser for the track, in which Roan appears to hitch-hike her way to Saskatchewan to start her new life in the Western Canadian province.
In the short clip released last week, the “My Kink Is Karma” singer sings, “I made a promise if in four months this feeling ain’t gone I’ll f**k this city / I’m moving to Saskatchewan.”
The lyrics of “The Subway” seem to tell the story of Roan seeing her ex on the metro. “I’m still counting down all of the days/ ‘Til you’re just another girl on the subway,” she sings in the post-chorus.
The upcoming track marks the first new release from Roan since her country-tinged sapphic service top banger “The Giver”.
“The Subway” is out on 31 July at 8 pm EST.
