Jack Lowden is the latest actor to play heartthrob for the ages Mr. Darcy, in Netflix’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice miniseries – and here’s the gay role he played in 2021.

The latest version of Pride and Prejudice to hit our screens, once again based on the iconic Jane Austen novel, but this time adapted by author Dolly Alderton, is coming to Netflix as a miniseries – with a cast packed full of firepower.

The series first announced its three leads in April, with Heartstopper star Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet and The Crown‘s Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet. Alongside the pair came the confirmation that Jack Lowden would take up the mantle of fiction’s most prolific heartthrob.

And with a follow up first look (29 July) revealing Colman and Corrin alongside Heartstopper‘s Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennett, and Freya Mavor, Hopey Parish and Holly Avery as fellow Bennet sisters Jane, Mary and Kitty – all eyes are clamouring for Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy

Who is Jack Lowden, Pride and Prejudice‘s new Mr. Darcy?

Jack Lowden is best known for snatching two BAFTA Awards, one in 2018 for Calibre and one in 2022 for Benediction, both in the Best Actor in Film category.

He’s also got a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and a Golden Globe nomination – but his second BAFTA was awarded for his role as gay World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon.

The historical biographical romantic drama followed Sassoon, who was sent to a psychiatric facility for his anti-war stance, and depicted his love affairs with several men.
