Have we all forgotten just how good an actress our lesbian lord and saviour Reneé Rapp is? We might just have, and the “Leave Me Alone” singer has just reminded us of that fact.

The 25-year-old is an accomplished performer, having starred as Regina George in Mean Girls on Broadway, as well as the 2024 movie adaptation. Reneé Rapp has also had roles in The Sex Lives of College Girls on top of her flourishing music career.

However, she may have just given the best performance of her life and it’s all thanks to Elle.

The “Not My Fault” singer joined the magazine for Phoning It In, a series where celebrities call up their contacts and try and prank them.

The series has had some good players, including Jake Shane and Benito Skinner, but Reneé Rapp has shown them all how you do it. Over several separate phone calls, including one to Shane, Rapp convinces people that she’s panicking.

In the one call to Shane, a social media personality, Rapp calls to share the news that she’s “pregnant.” Shane, who has been on both ends of Phoning It In before, initially seems sceptical. However, Rapp maintains the act so well that he believes her.

“I’m pregnant,” she informs him to stunned silence. “Oh my god! Are you serious?” asks Shane. Rapp then explains that she can’t tell her other friends who know her girlfriend, Towa Bird.

“I met this guy, and we had this whole thing and that was attractive to me. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to say to [Towa]. I Just don’t know what to do and I told her to leave the house because I can’t be around you. But also, I have to admit it to her,” Rapp continues as part of the act, sounding believably bewildered.

As Shane tries to comfort her, Rapp comes out with, “But I’ve cheated before!” Shane then offers to come help her before Rapp drops the act much to Shane’s chagrin. “You sold it,” he screams to a gleeful Rapp. “You just gave me a f***ing heart attack!” he adds.

In another call Rapp calls her girlfriend pretending to have been detained after hitting someone. Bird, who is driving when she answers the call, is similarly taken in by Rapp’s acting and does her best to calm Rapp down.

What makes the performance even better is that whilst sounding increasingly worked up while on the phone, Reneé Rapp improvises that she’s also speaking to other people in a police station. Rapp also goes from sounding truly hysterical to silently laughing as her girlfriend tries to assure her things will be ok.

When the act is finally dropped Bird’s, “What the f*** is wrong with you?”, evokes a huge laugh. “Please don’t be mad at me, I love you so much,” Rapp protests to which Bird replies, “I’m going to kill you and I’m gonna kill that bitch Elle too.” Bird then adds, “You acted your ass off.”

A third call sees Rapp convince Role Model that she has a crush on him. Again, she sells it amazingly well perfectly executing a drunk person. Rapp comes clean a bit sooner but the results are still hilarious!

“I forgot she’s an actor,” wrote one viewer. “Give her the Oscar rn this was everything,” added another while someone else put, “The way she just flips a switch. She’s so talented.” Many others applauded Rapp’s acting with person commenting, “Why did she eat with the actinggggg.” Some expressed shock at the internet’s surprise at Rapp’s acting ability. “People shocked she’s good at acting as if she isn’t a BROADWAY STAR,” wrote on fan.

Also, if that wasn’t enough, she also prank calls Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang.

She tells the gay comedian that she accidentally hit SNL showrunner Lorne Michaels with her car while he was crossing the road, and says: “There was a lot of traffic and people were crossing and I was like, oh my God that’s my friend, and it was Lorne, and the driver got distracted. He basically hit Lorne while he was walking.”

Bowen Yang is a total sweetheart, sympathises with her and says: “It makes sense that you’re scared and distressed about it,” and reassures her, adding “nothing bad is going to happen.”

Eventually she admits she was pranking him for an Elle video and Yang is SHOOK.

We’re impressed. Let’s get this girl an Oscar!
