The first look at double RuPaul’s Drag Race champ and Broadway juggernaut Jinkx Monsoon as Mary Lincoln in queer historical romp Oh, Mary! has dropped.
When Jinkx Monsoon won season five of RuPaul’s Drag Race back in 2013, she proclaimed to the world: “Get ready, b*tches, because it’s monsoon season.”
What no-one could have said for sure, though, is that monsoon season would still be going strong over a decade (and another Drag Race crown) later.
For her latest step in her domination of Broadway, Monsoon is appearing in Cole Escola’s Oh, Mary! as Mary Todd Lincoln – the suffocated wife of then-president Abraham Lincoln, in the weeks leading up to his assassination in 1865.
As per Escola, Mary’s life is examined “through the lens of an idiot”, with a synopsis reading: “Unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires abound in this 80-minute one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln.”
Monsoon is joined by Ugly Betty‘s Michael Urie as Mary’s teacher, Kumail Nanjiani as Abaraham Lincoln and Jenn Harris as Mary’s chaperone during her run (4 August to 27 September).

The first look at the new president and his first lady has dropped via the official Oh, Mary! X account, with the caption: “Welcome to the Monsoon administration.”
Fans have unsurprisingly gagged over the image, with one writing: “I’m screaming! This is fabulous!”
Another added: “This is going to be my personality for the next 8 weeks.”
“Bro you can literally take a plane to New York and see mega stars Jinx Monsoon and Kumail Nanjani in a play. Like that’s something that’s available for us humans to live,” a third, more existential commentator wrote.
Monsoon has succeeded Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Titus Burgess in the role, after she appeared in Pirates of Penzance – also on Broadway.
Escola made history with Oh, Mary! at the Tony Awards in June, becoming the first non-binary actor to win in the “Best Actor in a Play” category.
Oh, Mary! is currently listed as on Broadway until 4 January 2026.
