Right-wing political commentator Candace Owens has claimed that Donald Trump urged her to stop calling Emmanuel Macron’s wife Brigitte trans.
Just weeks ago, the French president and his wife, Brigitte Macron, who is not trans, filed a defamation lawsuit against Owens.
In the lawsuit, the Macrons described Owens’ alleged actions, which included releasing an eight-part audio and video series on the false trans conspiracy theory, as a “relentless and unjustified smear campaign”.
In the wake of the lawsuit, the American commentator has not only doubled down on her false claims, but has also claimed that Trump personally stepped in to urge her to stop fuelling conspiracy theories about Brigitte’s gender identity.

On Friday (1 August), Owens appeared on The Tucker Carlson Show, alleging that Trump called her in February following President Macron’s visit to the White House. Owens claimed that he used a diplomatic meeting about the war in Ukraine to ask Trump to put a stop to her podcast series, Becoming Brigitte.
“Emmanuel Macron personally flew to D.C. and asked Trump to ask me to shut up, to just stop speaking about his wife,” Owens claimed on the show. “I was messaged by the intermediary hours after Macron left, maybe even an hour after Macron had left, and said, we need to get on the phone with you.”
She also claimed that the French president and his wife, and their entire entourage, they watch every minute of my show”. According to Owens, Trump, however, is not.
“He sounded very confused, he said he was very confused,” Owens claimed of the alleged phone call from the president.
“Clearly, it was an emergency, because it wasn’t like Trump called me two days after, or a week after… I was messaged by the intermediary hours after Macron left, maybe even an hour after Macron left and said, ‘We need to get on the phone with you,’” she claimed.
“First the [intermediary] said ‘somebody very close to the President of the United States’ is asking me to ask you to stop talking about Brigitte’s penis,” Owens alleged.
The podcast presenter, who explained she was pregnant at the time, said she laughed off the message at first. However, she said she called the person back to verify the message, and claimed the request was made to Trump “as a condition of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war”.
PinkNews has contacted a representative of the White House for a comment on the matter.
In the Macron’s 218-page lawsuit against Owens, they claim that she “publicised President Trump’s request for her to stop spreading the rumors and falsely claimed that President Macron refused to help end the war in Ukraine until Owens stopped speaking about Mrs. Macron”.
