Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers are coming for Lady Gaga’s gig (literally) after pulling off a stunning rendition of “Abracadabra” at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards which has left fans “aroused.”
Yang and Rogers, who host the Las Culturistas pop culture podcast, started the tongue-in-cheek awards as a comedy “bit” a few years ago. Since then it has grown and grown, with this year’s being the first to be televised. Taking place at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles in July, the show was broadcast on Bravo last night (Tuesday 5 August) and is now available on Peacock.
The show, which gave out awards like the Lifetime of Culture Award to Allison Janney and Most amazing impact in film to Jeff Goldblum’s chest in Jurassic Park, featured the likes of Reneé Rapp, Dylan Efron, Andy Samberg, and Ben Platt.
There are many iconic moments from the night, including Goldblum’s speech, but one that has “aroused” people the most was a performance of Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” by the two hosts. Taking to the stage to deliver their monologue, the pair soon dived into their version of the song.
Complete with their own backing vocals, dancers, and choreography, the pair turned it out winning plaudits from their loyal fans. “I’m so aroused,” commented one person on a video of the performance. “You danced, I died,” wrote someone else referencing the beginning of Gaga’s music video for the song.
The performance was labelled “ICONIC!” by many while another follower suggested, “Pretty please let them host the oscars!” We would LOVE to see that!
Other highlights from the night include Rogers and Yang singing “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” over a montage of celebrities who couldn’t attend the ceremony for various reasons. The montage showed each absent celebrity and their reason for not being there, such as Chappell Roan who had a “guinea pig emergency.”
