The creator of The Hunting Wives has given hope for season two saying there’s “so much more story to be told.”

The Netflix series, based on May Cobb’s book of the same name, stars Brittany Snow as Sophie, who moves with her partner from Massachusetts to Texas. Once there she meets Margo (Malin Akerman) and her socialite gal pals who induct Sophie into their ‘debauched’ ways while a murder investigation takes place.

In an interview with CBS19 in July, Cobb spoke about the series and its popularity. Cobb told the channel she was a fan of the show and praised how it had been turned into a “binge-worthy” series.

Asked about a future season, Cobb said “We are waiting to hear. I really, really hope so. I feel like there is so much more story to be told. It ends on a cliffhanger, and also, the cast and crew were so wonderful. We all just want to get back together and work together again.”

Currently The Hunting Wives is only available on Netflix in the US, but it’s hoped the series will become more widely available soon.

Deadline reported on Tuesday (5 August) that in the week before the series counted more than two billion minutes watched on the streamer, making it the most-streamed series in the US that week. The outlet reported that the data came from Luminate, which also showed that the viewership had doubled over a week from 811 million minutes viewed in the first week the series was available.

While the series is evidently popular with the US audience, it has also received some backlash for its adult themes, which includes same-sex relationships. The show was branded “vulgar” by one viewer after who switched off within the first 20 minutes. Others have described it as “cringe”

Rebecca Cutter, the showrunner, spoke to The New York Post, and defended the series. “It’s so fun, and juicy and sexy. Everyone is behaving so badly,” she said. “I wanted to do an exploration of women behaving badly, unapologetic sexual conquest running rampant, and just something fun.”

One complaint about The Hunting Wives has been the relationship between Margot and a younger man. Addressing that, Cutter said, “It’s real. I have single friends [who are] women of a certain age, young men always are interested in them. That is a very real thing. And so, I think that that’s cool to show.”
