The creators behind smash Netflix show Wednesday have shut down hopes of a love story between Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair.

Wednesday season two sees the return of Jenna Ortega as the cult titular character and eldest Addams family child, solving yet more mysteries that come her way. There’s even the promise of even more spook-tacular drama in Wednesday season two, part two

She is joined by a host of familiar faces, and some newer ones, including Doctor Who star Billie Piper as Isadora Capri, Absolutely Fabulous’ Joanna Lumley as Grandmama Addams, and Boardwalk Empire’s Steve Buscemi as new principal Barry Dot.

Although the second season shows a new dynamic between her and her roommate, the yin to Wednesday’s yang, Emma Myers’ Enid, the series creators have shut down any hopes that the pair will become more than friends.

In a recent interview with Decider, Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar addressed viewer hopes for a queer romance between the pair. They reiterated that the show focuses on “the idea of sisterhood and what that means”.

“It’s a show about female friendship, and people can read into it whatever they want, which is great. I mean, that’s the beauty of television, is people can take ownership, but they’re very much friends,” Alfred Gough said.

“It’s really a show exploring that female friendship.”

Miles Millar continued, describing their friendship as something rare and meaningful — a deep connection between two seemingly opposite personalities who find solace in each other’s presence.

In a recent interview with Decider, “Wednesday” creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar addressed viewer hopes for a queer romance between Wednesday Addams and her roommate Enid Sinclair. They clarified that the show is firmly focused on female friendship and sisterhood, stating: “It’s a show about female friendship and people can read into whatever they want… they’re very much friends.” They emphasised that while audience interpretation is valued, no romantic storyline between the characters is planned.Adding to Gough’s comments, Millar told Decider that the creative team always aimed to ground Wednesday and Enid’s dynamic in “the idea of sisterhood and what that means.” While it may not be romantic, Millar described it as something rare and meaningful — a deep connection between two seemingly opposite teens who find solace in each other’s presence. “It’s amazing that they’ve been embraced in that way,” he said. “At its core, the show is about these two teenage girls who need each other and have found that connection. And they’re very, very different.” #wednesday #wednesdayaddams #jennaortega #enidsinclair #lgbtqia #emmamyers
