As the 9-1-1 universe expands, fans of the series are keen for more LGBTQ+ representation – and many particularly keen that Michael Provost’s character in the new Nashville-set spin-off gets a boyfriend.

9-1-1: Nashville was announced back in February when it was confirmed that ABC had ordered the series. Much like 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lonestar, the new series will follow the lives of the first responders of the 113 fire department.

The series is led by Chris O’Donnell as Captain Don Sharpe, “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider.” O’Donnell is often cited as a ‘gay awakening’ thanks to his role as Robin in 1997’s Batman and Robin. He will be joined by Jessica Capshaw as his wife, Blythe. LeAnn Rimes, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Hailey Kilgore, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz and Hunter McVey are also starring.

And while we imagine O’Donnell’s casting has caused a fair amount of excitement, it appears Provost’s character has gained some particular attention. The young actor will be playing Ryan Hart, the son of Captain Don, “a firefighter and modern-day cowboy,” according to the show.

After the show’s X/Twitter account showed off a series of in character portraits of the cast, fans responded with a large degree of enthusiasm to Provost’s.

“Please give him a boyfriend,” wrote one fan who shared the image. “He better kiss boys,” someone else posted. Meanwhile, another fan typed, “He better have a man that’s all I’m saying lmao.”

It’s unknown whether any of the character will be queer, but the 9-1-1 universe has amassed a keen LGBTQ+ fanbase, namely for lesbian couple Hen and Karen Wilson, played by Aisha Hinds and Tracie Thoms, and bisexual Evan Buckley, played by Oliver Stark.

The first teasers for 9-1-1 Nashville put a strong emphasis on the city’s history when it comes to country music. “From honky-tonks to high-stakes emergencies, #911Nashville brings the heat,” the series’ Instagram states.
