You’d think A Christmas Carol had been adapted every which way at this point, but that’s because you haven’t seen (or perhaps even heard of) Christmas Karma yet. And just wait until you hear who is starring in this new- fangled version of the classic Christmas story!

The UK might be experiencing yet another heatwave as we write this in August but today (Wednesday 13 August) we’ve just got a release date and a first look at the cast in full Christmas costume.

Christmas Karma, which is billed as “a festive, fresh and feel-good musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol,” will be led by The Big Bang Theory‘s Kunal Nayyar. He will take on the role of Scrooge, or in this case, Mr Sood.

Joining him will be Eva Longoria, Billy Porter and Boy George as The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future respectively. Additionally, Hugh Bonneville will play The Ghost of Jacob Marley, while Eastenders‘ Danny Dyer is playing the iconic role of The London Cabbie. Leo Suter, Pixie Lott, Charithra Chandran, and Bilal Hasna will also star.

And if you thought you were already in the midst of a fever dream, or hallucinating as a result of the heat, you’re not. And there’s more. Christmas Karma will feature “an eclectic soundtrack influenced by gospel, bhangra, Christmas carols, rap and classic pop.” A snippet of one song can be heard accompanying character posters shared on Instagram.

Take That’s Gary Barlow, Nitin Sawhney, Shaznay Lewis, Ben Cullum, Panjabi MC and Malkit Singh have all worked on the soundtrack with the film being promised as “a joyous and colourful musical celebration of Britain today and all of its communities and cultures.”

Christmas Karma is written and directed by Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha and produced by True Brit Entertainment.

Last April, when the lead cast was announced, Chadha said, as reported by Deadline, “Just as I have enjoyed Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life for many years, my aim with Christmas Karma is to create a festive classic for our times and for generations to come.”

Chadha also said, “I’m over the moon to be working with Zygi Kamasa who has supported me on this film from the onset – and True Brit, which truly celebrates British cinema. I am blessed with such a great diverse Cast and eclectic Music team – the soundtrack will be banging, influenced by Gospel, Bhangra, Carols, and classic pop songs. You will not be able to sit still.”

Christmas Karma will be in UK cinemas on 14 November.
