Irish singer-songwriter CMAT, whose new album is available for pre-order, has shared that all her fans are either Irish or lesbians.
In an interview with Dazed, the bisexual icon, whose off stage name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, spoke about her obsession with Charli XCX and her belief that most of her fans are either Irish or lesbians.
In response to the reporter mentioning that their flatmate had told them to check her out at Primavera, she said: “Do they live in Stoke Newington? All CMAT fans are in Stoke Newington. They’re all there, or in Hackney, and they’re all Irish or lesbians.”
The “Aw, Shoot!” singer went on to joke that she lives next to Hackney Town Hall and will “kiss the steps soon because of Charli XCX’s wedding that happened there”.
On 19 July, Charli XCX married The 1975 drummer George Daniel in a ceremony at Hackney Town Hall.
‘She’s the people’s Princess’

Speaking about her admiration for the “360” singer, the 29-year-old said: “I worship the ground she walks on. She’s the people’s Princess, my Princess Diana. People always find it funny because my music sounds nothing like hers, but I really admire her. I worship her.
“She’s inspirational to what I do, but it doesn’t mean I copy her – I just use her as a model to do my own thing. I think as a figurehead in pop culture, she makes you more comfortable as an artist to just work outside the structures laid out by the music industry.”
She hopes that her latest album, Euro-Country, will help anyone going through “any of the things I mention in the songs”.
“Like, when you write a sad song and someone says, ‘I listened to that the day someone died,’ yeah – that’s the job. So I hope that happens.”
On 22 August, CMAT announced her biggest shows to date, with a tour across the UK and Ireland.
The “Take a Sexy Picture of Me” singer will begin the tour on 7 March 2026 at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh. She will then perform at the Brighton Centre in Brighton on 9 March, the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on 12 March and Alexandra Palace, London on 13 March.
She will end the tour at Dublin’s St Anne’s Park on 30 May and Virgin Media Park, Cork on 20 June.
Euro-Country, CMAT’s new album, will be released on 29 August.
