Mystery surrounds an announcement Donald Trump is set to make on Tuesday afternoon (2 September), with some people believing it might be about his health.

According to Bloomberg, a White House source said the president would address the nation at 2pm Eastern (7pm in the UK).

The president’s official schedule confirms he will speak from the Oval Office.

With details thin on the ground, speculation is rife, especially on social media, with some believing the address will be about the Russia-Ukraine conflict, others saying the National Guard would be deployed to Chicago and a few believing the president would resign because of ill health. There are those who even think he is dead.

Fox News, meanwhile, is reporting it’s likely to be related to the defence department.

Rumours about the 78-year-old president’s health have increased recently, after he was absent from public view and bruises were spotted on his hands as he signed executive orders in the White House.

However, on Sunday (31 August), he took Truth Social to say: “Never felt better in my life,” adding that the “media freaks out if Trump disappears for 24 hours”.

Last week, vice-president JD Vance insisted his boss was in “incredibly good health” but added that he would be ready to take over the presidency if a “terrible tragedy” occurred.
