Wednesday season two is done. The final four episodes were released today (Wednesday 3 September) answering the questions left over from the first half and setting up what the already-announced season three could look like.

Warning: spoilers for Wednesday season two ahead!

After stopping Isaac Night aka Slurp the zombie (Owen Painter), and Tyler Galpin/Hyde’s (Hunter Doohan) mother, Francoise (Frances O’Connor) from using Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) to power Isaac’s decades old machine to free Tyler of his Hyde form, whilst also freeing Tyler, Wednesday is free to turn her attention to her dear friend Enid (Emma Myers).

Earlier, when Wednesday was trapped by the Galpins and buried alive, it was Enid who saved her by transforming into her alpha wolf form and digging up her roommate. However, Enid could not transform back and is now alone in the wild.

As the season ends Wednesday and Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) set off to find her. But before that happens, as an act of detente Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) gives Wednesday her sister Ophelia’s diary. As Wednesday begins to read she regains her psychic powers, having a vision of Ophelia alive and well somewhere.

Until now it had been ambiguous as to what happened to Ophelia. All we know is the similarities between her and Wednesday have concerned Morticia all season long. In the final moments of season two its revealed that Aunt Ophelia is locked away in Grandmama Hester Frump’s (Joanna Lumley) house. What’s more, she’s inscribed “Wednesday must die” on the wall in what looks like blood. It doesn’t look promising for Wednesday!

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, Wednesday co-creator Al Gough said, “it was always the plan” to see Ophelia at the end of season two. “Then that’s a driver into Season 3,” he added. Co-creator and co-showrunner Miles Millar also said Ophelia’s absence has left “a lot of unanswered questions” for the Addams family. He then teased, “The re-emergence of Ophelia is going to hit this family like a bomb.”

In regards to the Enid of it all, Millar has said, “Fans should be very worried.” Season two makes it clear an alpha werewolf is a solitary life, even hunted by other werewolves. “Getting out of this is going to be difficult,” Millar continued.

Season two ends with Wednesday and Fester speeding north towards Canada, hot on Enid’s tail. The platonic bond between Wednesday and Enid is set when Enid sacrifices her human form to save her friend. Speaking on this, Myers explains Enid does this “because Wednesday is her best friend. I would do the same for my best friend in real life. I hope and believe that anyone would do something like that for their best friend.” We just hope Wednesday can find somewhat to bring Enid back safe and sound!

Another big reveal from the Wednesday season two finale is that Thing was actually the right hand of Isaac Night. ‘Thing’ is revealed to be an anagram of ‘Night’ and is a welcome origin story for the silent yet most expressive member of the Addams family.

And while Thing and Night are reunited, it’s not for long and eventually Thing rejoins the Addams clan. “That scene is just so heartbreaking and beautiful and it’s everything we wanted it to be,” Millar said.

Tyler is left free at the end of season two. Though he’s approached by Isadora Capri (Billie Piper), the Nevermore teacher, about creating a safe space for Hydes, her father being one too. Piper told Netflix, “I haven’t really been given any other reason not to” believe Capri’s intentions. Looking ahead, Doohan indicated he wanted to see Tyler “really smile in Season 3,” clarifying, “not a fake barista smile, not an evil grin.”

One final thought that Gough leaves us with is that season three is set to be the “darkest chapter of the Addams family” yet. Oh dear…

Wednesday is streaming on Netflix.
