Bienvenue au Lotus Blanc! The White Lotus season four will reportedly be set in France, and there could be a shake up to the HBO show’s format.
Deadline reports that Mike White, the man behind the critically acclaimed HBO murder-mystery black comedy series, has selected the European country as his filming location for season four.
Season one was set in Hawaii, two in Scilly, and three, which made headlines earlier this year for its wild incest plot, was based in Thailand.
Typically, White sources Four Seasons hotels to film the bulk of The White Lotus in, and if his trend continues, season four could bring a slight shift in direction for the show.
There are three Four Seasons hotels in France, one being the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, situated on the coast near film capital Cannes.
The other two are Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris and Four Seasons Hotel Megève in the French Alps.
If White were to use either of the latter two hotels, it would likely lead the comedy-drama to move away from its typically tropical, beachfront setting, with a possible city or ski-based vacation becoming the show’s focus.
In April, White hinted as his desire to move away from sandy shores for season four.
“For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular,” he said following the end of season three.
“But there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”
HBO and White are yet to respond to reports of the show being based in France, and no hotel location has been decided as of yet.
When is The White Lotus season four coming out?
As it stands, filming for The White Lotus season four is yet to commence, and so a release date for the series is a long way off yet.
Season one of the hit, much-memed show landed in August 2021, with season two following a year later, in 2022.
Yet tere was a two-and-a-half year gap between seasons two and three, and considering production hasn’t begun on season four yet, fans can likely expect a similar gap this time around.
Despite season three of The White Lotus receiving a more lukewarm response compared to the rapturous acclaim of seasons one and two, the third season is still the third most-nominated series at this year’s Emmy Awards.
The White Lotus is up for ten major Emmys at this year’s 14 September ceremony, including Outstanding Drama Series, and acting nominations for Aimee Lou Wood, Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins, Sam Rockwell, Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Rothwell.
The White Lotus is streaming now on HBO and NOW.
