Addison Rae fans are “gagged” after one of the singer’s tracks was used by Apple to unveil the new iPhones.
On Tuesday (9 September) Apple revealed the iPhone 17, the 17 Pro/Pro Max and the brand new slimline iPhone Air to the world. New AirPods and Apple Watches were also revealed.
But one moment in the company’s presentation particularly grabbed viewers’ attention, even more than the new orange colour of the iPhone Pro. And that was the use of Addison Rae’s “New York.”
The moment came as Apple CEO Tim Cook handed over to marketing exec Greg ‘Joz’ Joswiak who talked through the new iPhone’s product design. During a montage of clips of New York City, Rae’s track dedicated to the city that never sleeps played in the background.

The social media star turned singer has a loyal and ardent fanbase who turned out in force online to celebrate Rae’s music getting the public platform.
“This is hugee!!” one person put in their caption on TikTok alongside a clip of the moment. “Oh Addison the pop star you are,” gushed one fan in the comments. “I was quaking,” wrote another while someone else put, “I WAS GAGGED.”
@feverdreamnightmare Apple just used Addison Rae’s “New York” to introduce the iPhone 17 Pro. This is how you know an artist has made it! New York is the first song on her debut album and a hidden wonder. #addisonrae #apple #appleevent #NEWYORK #iphone17pro ♬ original sound – feverdreamnightmare
“This is how you know an artist has made it!” someone else put in the caption of their TikTok. Others echoed this. Another commenter made the point that “[Addison would] have got an iPod ad if this was 2005,” recalling old iPod commercials often featuring silhouettes dancing against backdrops with Apple products very visible in white.
“They should’ve used “take a bite of the big apple” but this eats,” posed one fan referencing “New York”‘s lyrics. And the moment was labelled by one person as “the only gag from this event.”
Others online joked about offering “the gay apple intern” who must have been involved in choosing the track “a raise.”
Rae released her brand new album, Addison, in June. The 12-track album is Rae’s first studio album and first release since the 2023 EP, AR. Her music initially received mixed reviews. But with Addison she turned that around as reviews of her latest live shows indicate.
The Times said the singer proved “her star power” with her recent show at the O2 Brixton Academy. NME, which gave the show four stars, praised Rae “euphoric hour-long set of perfect pop.” The Guardian said the singer was “remarkably assured” after another show in Manchester.
Addison is streaming now.
