Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet has married his longterm girlfriend – and his on-screen husband has some thoughts about it.
Stonestreet won two Emmys for his role as Cameron Tucker, the partner of Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), in the popular sitcom. The pairing has long been celebrated as a positive example of LGBTQ+ love at a time when it still remained rare in the media.
On Monday, (8 September), Stonestreetmarried Lindsay Schweitzer, a representative for the actor confirmed to People magazine. The 54-year-old actor met the paediatric nurse at the Big Slick charity weekend in Kansas City, Missouri in 2017. They got engaged in 2021.
Posting on Instagram on Tuesday (9 September, Stonestreet’s birthday) the actor shared several images from his ceremony. He wore an understated but suave suit while his bride was dressed in a white satin gown. In the caption he wrote, “It’s my birthday and guess what I got.”

People also confirmed that the two got married at their home in Kansas City. In July Stonestreet told People, “We’re building a house to host a wedding, and we’re still on track to do that,” indicating that was the plan all along.
Taking to the Stonestreet’s Instagram comments, Tyler Ferguson wrote, “Of all second marriages, this one is my favorite! I love you both! I’m so happy for you!!!!”
On Modern Family, Cameron and Mitchell got married in the season five finale, “The Wedding” in 2014. Their marriage followed the real-world decision making in the US Supreme Court regarding gay marriage. In 2013, the court struck down California’s proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage.
That year, the Supreme Court also declared the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defined marriage as being between a man and a woman, unconstitutional.
At the time Stonestreet celebrated the news writing, “I’m happy for my gay & lesbian friends,” on X/Twitter. “Cheers to gorgeous, wonderful & beautiful weddings, long, happy & fruitful lives and then dying.”
Modern Family is streaming now.
