Pedro Pascal has praised Sabrina Carpenter following her celebration of trans rights during her MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) performance.
On Sunday (7 September) Carpenter attended the awards ceremony where she won three awards, Best Pop Artist, Best Album (for Short n’ Sweet), and Best Visual Effects for “Manchild.”
The “Taste” singer also performed her new song, “Tears”, during the show, in which she featured many RuPaul’s Drag Race and queer icons.
After the performance, Pascal, an ally to the LGBTQ+ community with a trans sister, Lux Pascal, took to his Instagram to celebrate Carpenter. On his stories Pascal shared a photo of Carpenter adding the simple caption, “Again… [crown emoji].”

The performance started with Carpenter emerging from a manhole cover surrounded by RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Willam (season four), Symone (season 13) and Denali (season 13 and All Stars 10).
Drag Race icons Laganja Estranja (season six) and Lexi Love (season 17) as well as Beyoncé collaborator and legendary ballroom performer, Honey Balenciaga, also took part in the number, which saw Carpenter all pay tribute to Britney for a rain-soaked dance break.
In the background, Drag Race stars held up placards that read: “Dolls, Dolls, Dolls,” and, “If you hate you’ll never get laid,” – and then, as Carpenter entered a phone booth, the stage flooded with even more signs fighting for LGBTQ+ rights.
During the song performers held signs reads, “Protect trans rights”, “Support local drag,” “Love each other” and “Don’t hate drag queens because you can’t read,” among other slogans.
Pascal frequently stands up for trans rights, having done so at the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He has also slammed JK Rowling for her views on the trans community, calling her celebration of the UK Supreme Court Court’s ruling in April “heinous loser behaviour.”
Pascal’s sibling, Lux, has praised her brother for his vocal allyship. In an interview in July at The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ LA premiere, she said, it “comes from his own heart,” and that he’s “incredible.”
