The FBI has released video footage showing a suspect in the Charlie Kirk shooting fleeing the scene of the incident, as the hunt for the perpetrator continues.
The right-wing activist and founder of Turning Point USA was holding one of his infamous ‘Prove Me Wrong’ debating events, part of his ‘America Comeback Tour’, at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday (10 September) when he was shot in the neck.
The 31-year-old, known for his gun rights advocacy and extreme anti-LGBTQ+ views, was discussing the conservative conspiracy around trans shooters in the moments before he was fatally shot.
A loud bang was suddenly heard and Kirk jolted back in his chair, before blood began to pour from his neck and he collapsed.
Kirk was rushed to hospital where he later died.
The individual suspected of using a single gun-shot – aimed from the roof of a nearby academic building – to kill Kirk in what the authorities have previously described as a “targeted” attack, currently remains at-large.
At a press conference on Thursday evening (11 September), Utah governor Spencer Cox told reporters the video footage was being released to “get help from the public” and find the suspect, who he described as an “evil human being”.

The minute long clip shows the suspect running across the roof of a Utah Valley University building, before climbing down the side of the building and fleeing on foot towards a wooded area.
The authorities state that as the suspect climbed down off the building they left “palm impressions” and “smudges, some places we are looking to collect DNA” and when they landed on the ground they left a “shoe imprint” on the ground.
The video footage comes after still images of the suspect were also released by the authorities with the hope that the public will help identify the person.
The images show an individual wearing sunglasses and a cap, a “distinctive” t-shirt which is black and features an image of an eagle and American flag, as well as a black backpack, dark jeans and grey Converse shoes.
At a previous news briefing, the commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, Beau Mason, said the suspect “appears to be of college age” and “blended in well” with the university-age crowd attending Kirk’s event.
“We were able to track the movements of the shooter starting at 11:52 am,” Mason said, as quoted by Sky News at the time.
“This subject arrived on campus shortly away from campus.
“We have tracked his movements onto the campus through the stairwells, up to the roof, across the roof, to a shooting location.
“After the shooting, we were able to track his movements as he moved to the other side of the building, jumped off of the building and fled, off of the campus and into a neighbourhood.”

Police have since recovered a high-powered bolt action rifle which FBI agent Robert Bohls told reporters they “believe is the weapon that was used in yesterday’s shooting”.
“That rifle was recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled. The FBI laboratory will be analysing this weapon,” Bohls said.
