Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis broke down in tears over the death of Charlie Kirk, despite admitting his views were “abhorrent”.

Moments before being shot in the neck during an open-air debate at Utah Valley University on 10 September, Kirk, who was well-known for his anti-LGBTQ+ views, was responding to a question about his claim that “too many” mass shooters in the US were transgender. He died in hospital later that day.

Suspected shooter Tyler Robinson was arrested two days after Kirk’s death following a manhunt. He appeared remotely in court in Utah on 16 September. The 22-year-old faces seven charges, including aggravated murder and witness tampering.

During an appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, which was recorded on 12 September, LGBTQ+ ally Curtis got emotional as she spoke about Kirk’s shooting.

‘His ideas were abhorrent to me’

The 66-year-old actress said: “I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say, but I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died, that he felt connected with his faith.

“Even though his ideas were abhorrent to me. I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith. And I hope whatever connection to God means that he felt it.”

Kirk’s death has created further division across the US and globally, with vice president JD Vance urging members of the public to report anyone celebrating his death to their employer.

Talking about critics of Kirk, JD Vance told listeners of The Charlie Kirk Show: “Call them out and, hell, call their employer. We don’t believe in political violence but we do believe in civility.

“We have to talk about this incredibly destructive movement of left-wing extremism that has grown up over the [past] few years, and I believe is part of the reason why Charlie was killed by an assassin’s bullet.”
