Gay comedian Simon Amstell has stripped down to his birthday suit for posters promoting his new stand-up show.

He will be performing I Love It Here, billed as “funnier, truer and more-healing than anything ever before or after”, at the Arches London Bridge at the end of October.

The eye-catching shots have been created in collaboration with Sam Ashby, who designed posters for All of Us Strangers, as well as other films.

The new posters show Amstell “as never before: free and joyful, soaking up his idyllic, countryside surrounds”.

Ashby was introduced to the screenwriter and actor by a mutual friend and they bonded over their creative work. “Me: my films and poster design, Simon: his beautiful photography, which remains a personal, unseen project,” he said.

The images “draw on Simon’s own photography, even using his camera,” Ashby added. “The aim was to reveal a side of [him] which people may not have encountered before: something freer, perhaps more open.

“That sense of freedom feels central to the spirit of this new show. And for the design, I painted the title by hand to give it an organic, personal touch: something natural, imperfect, alive.”

A synopsis for the shows says: “At a friend’s beach house just outside Los Angeles, Simon finally finds peace: he is in love, released from the need to perform. But when an invitation arrives from the man who first ignited his teenage desire, that fragile calm is thrown into chaos.

“What follows is a desperate, hilarious attempt at surrender, during a night of overwhelming stimulation, the raw material for this extraordinary new show.”
