Former Russian Olympic ice hockey coach Vladimir Plyushchev has blamed ‘petty bisexuals’ for the country’s exclusion at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics.

Russia has been banned from competing in the Olympics since since Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Athletes from Russia did not compete at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, with only 15 sportspeople from the nation competing as ‘neutral’ athletes, and the country will not be allowed to send athletes to the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano Cortina – locations across Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

And former youth ice hockey coach Vladimir Plyushchev has, rather incorrectly, identified the cause of the ban as bisexuals.

As reported by Daily Mail, the 70-year-old said the news was “expected”, but that there’s “no common sense” in the ban – because, uhhh, of the “petty bisexuals” in charge.

“It’s run by petty bisexuals like the French, Germans, English and the Balts. So expecting any chance was pointless. And we shouldn’t expect anything from them.

“There are other countries that treat us loyally, positively, maybe even kindly. We need to work with them, not wait for someone to hand us something on a silver platter.

“Sport is diplomacy, just a different form. Let out officials practice this diplomacy instead of drinking coffee in their offices and telling us how hard life is for them because they’re not allowed to compete in the Olympics.”

The Russian athletes who competed at Paris in 2024 as ‘neutral’ were subject to rigorous vetting by the International Olympic Comittee to ensure they had no ties to Russian military or security agencies and did not actively support the war in Ukraine.
