Adam Ellis has been hit with a wave of death threats after he posted a pro-trans webcomic to social media.
The American artist said he has received a number of threats after posting a comic mocking right-wing hysteria about trans people.
Published on Friday (26 September), Ellis’ comic depicts someone breaking into a trans person’s room and, having after reading posts online, accusing them of being a “terrorist“, and claiming that transgender people were part of a “death cult.”
The final panel shows a trans woman, in a clay face mask, lying on her bed playing video games.
Adam Ellis wrote on Bluesky that since sharing the comic, social media users have reported his online accounts to suicide watch lists, which was a “way of saying ‘kill yourself’ without getting banned”, he said.
He shared a screenshot of one post from Reddit’s care resource, which listed a number of support networks for people enduring a mental-health crisis and saying a “concerned redditor reached out to us about you”.
Ellis responded by saying: “I can’t imagine anything more pathetic than getting riled about trans people just existing. Deeply cringe.”
Over the past few months, right-wing groups have labelled members of the trans community as “extremists”.
Earlier this month, The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank responsible for the notoriously right-wing presidential blueprint, Project 2025, petitioned the FBI to brand “trans ideology” a terror threat, citing the shooting of MAGA podcaster Charlie Kirk. The man charged with the crime does not publicly identify as trans.
Recent studies show that the majority of domestic extremist killings in the US are committed by those holding right-wing and white supremacist views. Of the 3,708 mass shooting incidents committed since 2015, only about 16 of the shooters were reportedly publicly transgender.
Meanwhile, US representative Ronny Jackson was condemned for an appearance on Newsmax during which he called for trans people to be removed from public life and institutionalised.
