People can’t stop talking about Pillion star Alexander Skarsgård’s NSFW dildo-adorned shirt, which he wore to the 21st Zurich Film Festival.

Starring Alexander Skarsgård as the dominant leader of a leather biker gang Ray and Harry Potter’s Harry Melling as Colin, the naïve young gay man chosen to be Ray’s submissive, Pillion dropped its first kinky, metal-studded trailer on 1 October.

The trailer showcased a tongue-in-cheek (both types) sense of humour, a completely naked Skarsgård, Melling being ordered to go and buy a butt plug and the tease of some very horny power dynamics outside of the bedroom, the first look was notably missing any glimpse at what the pair might get up to between the sheets.

At the Zurich Film Festival, Skarsgård knew exactly how to promote the film, wearing a dildo-adorned shirt that also depicted a lube bottle, broken phone, toilet paper and butt plugs.

The shirt is by Italian designer Magliano, whose work is inspired by the “late 20th-century gay subculture in Bologna, as well as more traditional Italian Provincia rituals and influences”.

On social media, Alexander Skarsgård has been praised for his choice of shirt, with one fan writing: “Provocative, stylish, brilliant, he turns every outfit into a statement.”

“Even the shirt make[s] us horn-knee,” another joked of his garment choice.

“The man gets better looking by the day I swear,” someone else responded to an image of him in the shirt, while another person commented: “This goes so incredibly hard”.

Skarsgård previously revealed that his past experiences with men and women were “not really relevant” to creating his dominant character Ray.

“I found that in this case, it’s not really relevant what my background is. I mean, I do have a kid, but what I’ve done in the past, who I’ve been with, men, women…

“To me, what was important was that this felt like an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture I hadn’t seen portrayed this way – with so much authenticity,” he told Variety at the Zurich Film Festival.
