With her flawless looks, killer pop songs, and unrelenting advocacy we can’t think of anyone much better suited to inducting Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame than Roan.
As one person put on TikTok, “Chappell Roan is literally our generation’s Cyndi Lauper lol.” Another person added, “such a perfect match,” while someone else wrote, “love this for both of them.”
Lauper has long been a gay icon. Her music has always empowered people of all backgrounds to live and be their authentic selves.

Her debut album, 1983’s She’s So Unusual, featured iconic hits such as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” With the album the pop icon also became the first woman in history to have four top five singles from a debut LP and earned two GRAMMY awards.
She has also long advocated for the LGBTQ+ community, setting up True Colors United in 2008 to tackle LGBTQIA+ homelessness.
She’s sold more than 50 million records worldwide, and as well as GRAMMYs has won an Emmy and a Tony Award, the latter for her work on hit musical Kinky Boots, making her 3/4 of an EGOT.
