Former Olympic diver and current knitting champ Tom Daley has explained what about his appearance on The Celebrity Traitors left him “annoyed” during episode one.
The gold medal winner and host of new Channel 4 series The Game of Wool was one of 19 celebrities to appear on the first ever series of The Celebrity Traitors, which is currently airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
After being selected by host Claudia Winkleman as a Faithful, he was left to suss out who the Traitors among the group were. Yet, after competing in just two episodes, he was ‘murdered’ by the Traitors – Cat Burns, Alan Carr, and Jonathan Ross.
Not before he could give TV presenter and journalist Kate Garraway, whom he suspected of being a Traitor, the nastiest side-eye in modern history, that is.
Speaking to The Guardian recently, Tom Daley theorised on why he was killed off from the show so early on.
“They got rid of people who probably would have figured it out,” he told the publication.

If he had been a Traitor, it’s likely he would’ve survived a lot longer than just two episodes. Not being chosen for the role was the main thing that left him “annoyed” about his experience on the hit show.
“Around that first round table, you’re either waiting to be touched or not wanting to be touched. It’s really intense. When I wasn’t a Traitor, I was annoyed,” he confessed.
“You can think, ‘Just play the game and have fun and see where we get.’ But as an athlete, I like to be in control.”
Being picked off from the cast also meant that he couldn’t compete in any of the challenges. After doing so well in the second challenge, pushing a 2.5-ton wooden Trojan horse up a hill, Daley was bummed to miss out the opportunity to do more.
“As a viewer, you’re thinking, ‘I don’t really need to see all this.’ But as a participant I wanted to be jumping out of helicopter,” he said. So much so, that he asked The Celebrity Traitors’ producers to consider “bringing someone back from the dead”.
Alas, “they said no,” Daley confirmed.

It took the Faithfuls six episodes to finally banish their first Traitor, in last night’s episode (29 October).
The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight at 9pm GMT on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
