Broadway history-maker Cole Escola is teaming up with Oscar winners Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence on a feature film about Miss Piggy.
A movie about the divalicious hog and star of The Muppets is in the early stages at Disney, Variety reported yesterday (5 November), with Mother! star Jennifer Lawrence confirming the project during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast.
Speaking to Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang and comedian Matt Rogers on Wednesday’s episode of their podcast, Lawrence confirmed that she and Poor Things star Emma Stone will be producing the film, with Cole Escola writing it.
“I don’t know if I can announce this but I am just going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it,” she said.
An audibly excitable Yang and Rogers then pressed Lawrence whether she and Stone would co-star in the film. “I think so. We have to,” Lawrence teased. She added that it is “f**ked up” that she hasn’t yet appeared in a film alongside Stone.

The mercurial Muppet was first created by puppeteer Frank Oz in 1974, and has become one of the most notable characters to come from the musical ensemble, alongside Miss Piggy’s on-off lover Kermit the Frog. Despite this, she is yet to have her own feature film.
Both Lawrence and Stone are currently doing the promotional rounds, promoting their respective films Die, My Love and Bugonia.
Escola has enjoyed 2025 as their big breakout year, after they won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for their role in Broadway smash Oh, Mary!, which they also wrote.
Escola became the first non-binary actor to win the accolade. Since then, they have lined up roles in in Melissa McCarthy’s festive comedy Margie Claus and in upcoming A24 comedy Jonty, alongside Stone’s Bugonia co-star Jesse Plemons.

Earlier this week, Netflix announced that Escola would play non-binary assassin Bon Clay in One Piece season three, which will begin filming later this year.
In Oh, Mary!, Escola played a spoof version of Mary Todd Lincoln, the wife of Abraham Lincoln. The farce sees Mary as an alcoholic, former cabaret star who dreams of reigniting her journey to stardom, and benefits from her husband’s assasination.
Other stars including RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon and Jane Krakowski have since starred in the role. It will transfer to the West End from 3 December, with The Sandman actor Mason Alexander Park starring.
During her chat on Las Culturistas, Lawrence revealed that she had contemplated taking the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!.
“The whole thing is a joke she’s in on,” Lawrence said. “I felt like I could be big and in on the joke.”
She changed her mind when considering Broadway’s intense, multi-show schedule.
“The only time I wanted to do theater was I wanted to do Oh, Mary!. They were like, ‘It’s eight shows a week and six weeks of rehearsal.’ I was like, ‘Do you have daycare there?’ It just wouldn’t have worked.”
