Will & Grace’s Debra Messing blasted for sharing ‘racist’ post about Zohran Mamdani

Will & Grace star Debra Messing has been blasted by social media users for sharing what many have described as a “racist” post regarding New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani.
Mamdani, 34, was elected on Tuesday (4 November) securing more than 50% of votes. Mamdani is the city’s youngest mayor since 1892, as well as its first Muslim mayor.
In his victory speech, Mamdani pledged to protect trans people in the city, building on his campaign promises as well as his pro-LGBTQ+ record.
However, not everyone is excited about his leadership of NYC. Messing, who came to fame in LGBTQ+ sitcom, Will & Grace, has not enjoyed Mamdani’s rise in the polls.
Messing’s anti-Mamdani posts have attracted a lot of attention, with one observer noting on Monday (3 November) prior to the election, that the actress had posted on her Instagram stories 91 times in 24 hours. “Not an exaggeration. I think Zohran has actually broken her brain,” user @cee_ryan added.
Among the posts that Messing, who is Jewish and an advocate of Israel, had shared was one listing “things we don’t see Jews doing” which included “Flying planes into buildings,” “Trying to dominate the world,” and “Suicide bombing.”

The Will & Grace star also shared President Trump’s own social posts attacking Mamdani as well as those calling “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!”
And while some mocked Messing, others criticised the actress for sharing such inflammatory posts, namely a meme that described Mamdani explicitly as a “jihadist.”
The meme in question originated with @thepersianjewss on Instagram who shared an image of a fake polling card presenting two choices: “A Democrat: just a democrat.”
This was in reference to former New York Mayor, Andrew Cuomo, who once stood as a Democrat but ran in Tuesday’s election as an independent. He secured 41% of the vote in the end after his campaign was marred by sexual harassment allegations, as well as the use of AI-generated adverts that some criticised as ‘racist‘.
The other option on the image was “An actual Communist Jihadist: A literal Karl Marx-quoting, America-hating Jihadist” in clear reference to Mamdani.
The caption for the post read: “This isn’t just a mayoral race. It’s the battle for Democracy itself. New York City, make the right choice.”
The original post itself has been blasted as “racist” with Messing facing the same criticism. “i truly hope Debra Messing never gets hired for anything ever again. the way she was calling Zohran a jihadist. the day OF the election. just a deeply racist person,” wrote one person on X/Twitter.

“We have to give the nay-sayers and the racist less/no attention,” added another user. “God Debra Messing is such a stupid bitch,” wrote UNHhhh icon and RuPaul’s Drag Race queen, Katya Zamalodchikova.
Messing has yet to respond to or address her posts about Mamdani in any way. PinkNews has contacted her representatives for comment.
