Actor Jonathan Bailey must have met a number of LGBTQ+ people in his career but Tuesday was still a first – when he shared the stage with gay muppets Bert and Ernie.
The Wicked: For Good star took part in two short segments in the long-running children’s TV show, Sesame Street. In one, he was sitting on a park bench where he was joined by furry red monster Elmo for a cuddle.
“Sometimes I do nothing and sometimes I just sit and listen to the leaves,” Bailey told his newest pal. “Then I think about all the things that make me smile, like my family and friends, friends like you.
“I’ll think about and appreciate all the things I’ve done this year… maybe there are some adventures and moments we’re yet to experience.”
People’s sexiest man alive went on to say: “Remember, give yourself a moment. A moment for whatever you need.” The pair then enjoyed a hot chocolate together.
He also got to show off some of his Wicked dance moves to loveable couple Bert and Ernie, who live together in the basement of 123 Sesame Street.
Bailey is reprising his role as Fiyero in Wicked: For Good, which is due to open in cinemas on Friday (21 November).
The film follows on from 2024’s Wicked, which adapted the first half of the Broadway musical of the same name. It also stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba/The Wicked Witch of the West, and Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good.
Bailey has recently said that he now intends to spend some time focusing on his LGBTQ+ charity, The Shameless Fund, although he doesn’t expect to be away from the screen for too long.
