A furry convention in Slovenia has confirmed that a new venue has been secured for next year after participants were “attacked” in their rooms.

GoldenHorn, an annual furry convention in Slovenia organised by SloFurs – a furry community – took place between 14 to 15 November.

However, the event organisers claim that the 2025 convention was hit by “attacks” on Friday and Saturday night. The statement reads:

“On the night of the 14th of November, we received reports regarding firecrackers being thrown towards the party houses our attendees were staying at. The perpetrators were neither attendees nor guests at the resort.”

The statement continues: “The following night of the 15th, a similar group was spotted near the party houses again and both resort and police were once again notified. Local police confirmed the arrest of one person.”

The statement goes on to allege that, “some time later”, some attendees were “attacked in their party rooms, as well as getting sprayed by a fire extinguisher… all immediate medical attention was provided and all reported injuries were treated.”

The furry subculture comes together to share a love of anthropomorphic animal characters. Being a furry isn’t a sexuality or gender, but there is an overlap between the LGBTQ+ community and the furry subculture.

Attendee left ‘scared and in shock’

One attendee who experienced the attack took to Bluesky, sharing that they were “scared and in shock” following the incident, which they shared has left people hesitant to attend future events.

But they insisted that the community should not “let them [the perpetrators] win”.

“Don’t be scared about living your hobbies, passion, and selves. Don’t let these f*****g people win; they want you to be scared, and they want you to hide and disappear,” they wrote, urging others to support GoldenHorn “for the amazing con they created out of nothing” and “also for protecting us all night”.

“On behalf of both SloFurs and GoldenHorn, I sincerely apologise for the events that took place and to everyone attending,” the statement ends.

The organisers confirmed that a new venue has been secured for 2026 in order to avoid future incidents.

“For 2026, attendees safety will remain our highest priority. We have secured a new convention venue which our security team will ensure the safety of all attendees and make GoldenHorn a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone,” the statement concludes.
