Loose Women icon Denise Welch is coming for the Christmas chart crown with her hyperpop Christmas anthem “Slayyy Bells” and frankly, we’re obsessed.

Michael Bublé and Mariah step aside, there’s a new festive icon competing for the coveted Christmas number one spot on the chart. But Denise Welch also has competition from Kylie Minogue’s single, “XMAS.” It’s really a battle of the gay icons this year.

Promotion for the track, a collaboration with chocolate brand Celebrations, sees Welch referencing Kylie in an all-red ensemble. She also dances around the booth with her fluffy scarf and oversized sunglasses in the song’s video.

Described as “part carol, part club classic,” “Slayyy Bells” is all about doing Christmas your way. Infused with camp northern charm and hun attitude, Welch’s track will be going straight on your festive playlist.

“Slayyy Bells is about doing Christmas your way,” Welch wrote about the track on Instagram.

‘Mother has arrived’

“Don’t want Turkey? Don’t have it.” She continued: “Don’t want to dress up? Stay in your PJs. But my message to you is however you spend your holidays, have lots and lots of fun, huns.”

Also, in the track’s press release, she added: “This remix, apart from being cool, catchy and a sure-fire hit, is all about having fun.”

A quick glance at the Instagram comments confirms that Denise Welch’s army of gay fans are officially seated for “Slayyy Bells”.

“If this doesn’t get Christmas number 1 I’m suing someone,” one of her Instagram comments reads.

Another declared: “YASSSS Mother has arrived.”

The lyrics are a bit questionable at times, but it wouldn’t be an instant camp classic if it wasn’t a bit, well, batshit.

“My sister likes a Malteser, But so do I you see / So all she finds is wrappers / And just one little Bounty,” she sings. Relatable.

In another catchy line, she declares: “Slayyy bells, slayyy bells, we’re doing it our way. We’re serving looks, but not turkey, oh what a holiday (hey!)”

With cheeky humour and plenty of Christmas references, “Slayyy Bells” might just be the Christmas hit of 2025.

The track is now available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music
