On the red carpet at the GQ Men of the Year bash earlier this month, The Hunger Games star told Them: “F**k the noise. Haters are gonna hate. Haters are just fans on a bad day. Just f*****g do you.”

@pinknews Josh Hutcherson, while attending the 2025 GQ Men of the Year red carpet, took some time to share some words of encouragement for trans women and nonbinary femmes. Speaking to Them, the ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘I Love LA’ star voiced his support for the dolls and gave some advice on how to respond to those who may be intolerant. “F*ck the noise. Haters are gonna hate. Haters are just fans on a bad day. And just f*cking do you,” he said. #joshhutcherson #HungerGames #Protectthedolls #transrights #lgbtqia ♬ Tears – Sabrina Carpenter

In 2015, Hutcherson, who also starred in Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Bridge to Terabithia, said he would like to be able to shut down his pro-queer group Straight But Not Narrow but society wasn’t ready for that yet. He founded the initiative, aimed at helping tackle homophobia in schools and society, in 2011. Although it is now inactive, campaign videos remain online.

Hutcherson told E! Online: “There is still so much to do. It’s not only even about legislation. It starts there by making it legally acceptable but socially there is so much prejudice and bias that is integrated into our culture and that’s going to be around for a while. I hope one day in my life time we get to close the door on this group but there’s a lot more work to do.

“One of the moments that was really rewarding was about two years ago when we got an email from a young guy in Florida.

“He was like: ‘I’m 14 years old and go to a very religious middle school and it’s been a really hard for me to come out and find support because I was afraid I wouldn’t be accepted in my community. But because of Straight But Not Narrow and the support that you show me from the straight community, it’s made me see a really different side of things. I’m so happy now that I came out to my friends and family, and they all love and support me’.”

Hutcherson’s latest comments came during Trans Awareness Week, during which more than 61,500 cisgender women signed an open letter calling out the media and politicians for spreading anti-trans rhetoric in the UK.
