RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star La Voix has landed her first major gig, days after being forced to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing.
The drag superstar, 45, is set to play the wicked and woeful Miss Hannigan in the UK and Ireland tour of the beloved, Tony Award-winning musical Annie.
La Voix will take up the coveted role on the tour’s opening night at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London on Saturday 23 May 2026. She will then appear at dates in Birmingham, Manchester, Plymouth and Canterbury between May and July.
She will appear alongside West End performer and The Wizard of Oz star Alex Bourne, who will play notorious billionaire Oliver Warbucks.
Set during the Great Depression in 1930s New York, the much-loved musical follows young orphan Annie as she spends her days miserable at an orphanage run by the villainous Miss Hannigan.
At Christmas time, Oliver Warbucks invites one child from the orphanage to spend the holiday at his luxurious mansion. While initially unhappy that Annie is a girl, he warms to her, and their familial bond grows stronger – much to the chagrin of Miss Hannigan, who hatches a plot to spoil Annie’s newfound family.
Annie was last on the West End back in 2018, and on Broadway in 2014.
While La Voix shot to international fame with her appearance on Drag Race UK season six in 2024, ultimately ending up as a runner-up, she has become a household name in the UK this autumn after appearing as a contestant on the 23rd series of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
La Voix made it into the top seven on the dancing competition, before having to skip week nine due to an injury. Earlier this week, she confirmed that she would have to withdraw from the series entirely on the guidance of the show’s medical team.
“Darlings, it breaks my heart to say this, but after all week of hoping, healing, and doing everything I possibly could, my injury simply hasn’t improved the way we prayed it would. With the guidance of the medical team and a heavy, heavy heart I have to officially withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing,” she wrote in a lengthy statement on Instagram.
“This show has been one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. To step onto that iconic dancefloor, to be welcomed so warmly by the judges, the pros, the crew, Tess & Claudia and of course the fabulous audience — it has meant the world to me,” she added.
La Voix’s famous friends including Drag Race winner Kyran Thrax, judge Michelle Visage, and fellow Strictly star Vicky Pattison offered their support as the drag star worried that she had let her dance partner Aljaž Škorjanec down.
“He has supported me, encouraged me, and believed in me from day one, and I so desperately wanted to keep dancing for him as much as for myself,” she wrote.
“I’m devastated not to be able to continue the adventure with him, but I’m endlessly grateful for everything he’s given me throughout this experience.”
In the days following her exit from Strictly, La Voix has seen her new Christmas song “The Magic Of Christmas” top the iTunes chart in the UK.
She is also performing in the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at the Wycombe Swan alongside Radio 1 DJ, Scott Mills from 12 December.
Tickets for Annie are on sale now.
