Stranger Things 5 is finally with us and with it comes a new coupling that fans are celebrating as “perfect”.

Warning! Spoiler alert for Stranger Things 5 Volume 1.

The fifth and final series of the hit sci-fi show landed in the UK today (Thursday 27 November) and sees Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, and the rest of the cast return to save the world (we hope) one last time.

Only the first four episodes are available (the next three coming out on Christmas Day/Boxing Day and the finale on New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day – it depends where in the world you are!) but they are packed with action, plot twists, and surprises.

And fans of the show have taken well to a new relationship that has developed over the new episodes, one that we hadn’t seen interact much at all before now.

Season five continues the development of Will’s (Noah Schnapp) homosexuality after the character first indicated his feelings for Mike (Finn Wolfhard) in season four.

First, there’s Will longing as he happens upon Robin (Maya Hawke) kissing her girlfriend, Vickie (Amybeth McNulty). Later on, while on a mission, Robin, who is seemingly not completely out to everyone, hints that she saw Will.

“[Vicky’s] my friend, we’re friends, good friends. But the thing is some people might not understand our friendship” explains Robin asking Will to keep it to himself.

As far as we’ve seen in the show, Robin has only come out to Steve (Joe Keery) in season three.

The two bond further before in episode four, on yet another mission, Robin appears to pick up on Will’s feelings for Mike.

Using a personal story she later comforts Will on accepting himself and not “looking for answers in somebody else.” She continues: “I had all the answers, just needed to stop being so goddamn scared. Scared of who I really was. Once I did that I felt so free.”

It’s a sweet moment between two queer characters, the elder gently guiding the younger towards acceptance and self-love.

Fans are flooding social media to celebrate this new queer pair.

“This development between Will and Robin in Stranger Things is PERFECT, and it’s amazing how they make such a really cute couple,” wrote one person on X/Twitter.

“I REALLY LOVE WILL’S STORYLINE ESP WITH HIM AND ROBIN,” wrote another, while someone else typed, “Will and Robin were protagonists in this season. LONG LIVE THE GAYS.”

Another person said: “I love Will and Robin being a duo.” And someone else put: “F*** that made me bawl my eyes omg that Robin and Will scene,” possibly in reference to the last aforementioned scene.

And referencing the very end of the fourth episode, when Will shows off some previously teased powers, someone wrote: “I liked how Will accepting his sexuality kinda unlocked his powers. That was very cool, and I liked Robin helping him through it.”

Schnapp has previously discussed how Will’s sexuality will play a part of the new season.

“Seeing how the world receives Will, and embraces him, has taught me through the years to feel OK in who I am and how I express myself,” Schnapp said about art imitating life.

Stranger Things 5 Volume 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
