The cause of death of Finding Prince Charming star Chad Spodick has been confirmed as suicide.

Loved ones of the 42-year-old TV personality shared news of his death last week via a GoFundMe page, describing it as “sudden and heartbreaking”.

Now, a spokesperson for the Boca Raton police department in Florida has now confirmed to multiple publications that Spodick died by suicide.

No further details were shared, but the spokesperson noted that the case regarding his death remains open.

Spodick’s family are fundraising to cover the cost of his funeral and memorial service, as well as care required for his pets – four dogs and one bird, Cosmo – and his mother’s “immediate living expenses”.

“Our hearts are shattered as we share the devastating news of the loss of our beautiful, kind, and generous son, brother and friend Chad. His passing was sudden and heartbreaking, and we are still struggling to comprehend a world without his light,” his loved ones wrote on the fundraising page.

They described him as someone who “poured himself into others” and “cared deeply for every creature”.

“The world was brighter with Chad in it, and those who were lucky enough to know him felt the warmth of his heart every day,” the campaign’s organiser, Kate Werbowski, wrote.

“He leaves behind his mother, Felice, who is now faced not only with unimaginable grief but with the unexpected financial burden of funeral arrangements and ongoing living expenses. We are coming together as a community to support her and Chad’s animals during this incredibly painful time.”

At the time of writing, the fundraiser has raised almost $29,000, roughly 83 per cent of its $35,000 goal.

In an update shared yesterday (9 December), Werbowski said that a memorial for Spodick would be held on Sunday 14 December at The Gardens of Boca Raton – Cemetery and Chapel in Boca Raton.

“For those who are unable to attend in person, there will be a live stream available so everyone who loved him can join in and be part of the remembrance,” she added.

Chad Spodick was best known for appearing on seven episodes of LGBTQ+ dating show Finding Prince Charming, which aired for one season on Logo in 2016. Spodick made it to week six of the dating show, before quitting.

The series was hosted by queer NYSNC singer Lance Bass, who paid tribute to Spodick in a moving Instagram Stories post.

“I am truly heartbroken about the sudden passing of our friend, Chad,” he wrote.

“He was such a kind sweet soul who loved his friends, his family and his beloved pets so deeply, and I hope that’s how everyone else remembers him.

“Life should never be taken for granted so remember to be kind and check in on those you love because you never know what people are dealing with privately and tomorrow is never promised. Fly high my friend.”
