A viral video of a trans woman coming out to her grandma is the kind of feel-good content the queer community needs this holiday season.

Trans beauty influencer Kevin Ninh, known online as FlawlessKevin, gave the internet her own little holiday gift this year after sharing a clip coming out to her 82-year-old grandmother, who was nothing but supportive.

The 29-year-old YouTube star came out as trans in June 2025 in an emotional TikTok post, eventually going on to create a web series documenting her transition, Diaries of a Doll.

During episode seven of the series, Ninh recorded a heartwarming clip documenting the moment she came out to the family matriarch.

“You want me to call you she?” Ninh’s grandmother asked, to which she replied: “I go by she/her now.”

Asking for clarification, her grandma asks: “So I have two granddaughters now? Is that okay?”

“Is that okay with you?” Ninh asked, to which her grandmother replied: “Why not? Whatever makes you happy.”

The two then went in for a heartwarming embrace, with Ninh’s grandmother saying: “Love you. As long as you’re happy.”

The emotional post, which has seen nearly 1 million likes, seemed to flood the queer side of Instagram with happy tears as fans and well-wishers celebrated the simple yet strong act of love Ninh’s grandmother had displayed by accepting her.

“This is amazing,” one user wrote in response to the clip. “The world needs this right about now.”

In an interview with People Magazine, the make-up artist said she had experienced difficulties in coming out after telling her mum she was gay at 15. Despite the tension, the moment eventually brought them closer together.

“I always considered transitioning, but the thought of that always scared me,” she said. “Not everyone who’s trans has to medically transition, but I thought about how long the journey would be mentally, physically, and financially, and wasn’t sure if that was the path for me.”

She eventually found her truth after seeing the trans character Cho Hyun-ju in the second season of Squid Game. Seeing trans people represented in media, Ninh said, gave her the confidence she needed to come out.

“I’m so blessed and grateful that everyone in my family loves and supports me and not a single person has any issue with me being trans,” she said.
