We already knew that Heated Rivalry was getting a second season but now we know season three could be on the way too.

At this point unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll have heard about the Canadian LGBTQ+ sports drama that’s quickly gripped the internet.

Starring Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams as Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander, two rival ice hockey players who have a passionate years-long secret fling, the show is based on Rachel Reid’s Game Changers novels.

The show takes its name from the second of Reid’s books, which focuses on Rozanov and Hollander as they start their steamy affair. Their story is continued in The Long Game, the last of Reid’s six-book series.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the show will be coming back for season two after the first comes to a climax in Canada, the US and Australia on 26 December. The show will be available to UK viewers from 10 January as we recently learned.

Show creator Jacob Tierney also recently confirmed the show would most likely return to our screens in 2027.

But now we know that plans could already be in place for a third season, should all go to plan.

While speaking to GQ Hype recently it was confirmed that Storrie and Williams originally signed on for three seasons of the show.

While it’s by no ways a confirmation that we’ll actually get a third season, it does offer an indication of the creatives’ vision for the show should its runaway success continue.

And with the first season’s fifth episode now being the second best rated TV episode of all time, as well as the love online, we can say with confidence that the show is proving a hit – so we’re holding out hope to see that three-season vision is lived out in full.

By our count, there are at least three more books in Reid’s series that haven’t been adapted and could serve as the basis for more stories.

Williams explained to GQ Hype that he was drawn to the show’s queer storylines, as well as its depiction of autism. The actor was recently celebrated by the show’s fans for his sensitive portrayal of autism.

“I love queer stories” Williams said. “There’s something about them that I feel are very universal. Moonlight was a movie that shattered me. Brokeback was a movie that shattered me.

He continued: “It’s the inability to express yourself—that something is so intrinsic in who you are, yet you feel it’s inappropriate. You feel it’s not celebrated, you feel societally less worthy. It’s something very deep that you can’t control.”
