Chappell Roan has taken back her tribute to the late Brigitte Bardot after finding out about the late-star’s “disappointing views”.
Bardot, an actress and animal welfare activist, died on Sunday (28 December) at the age of 91. She has also been remembered by some for her status as an icon of sexual liberation.
Among those to pay tribute after news broke of Bardot’s death was Roan. The “Red Wine Supernova” singer wrote on Instagram on Sunday: “Rest in peace Ms. Bardot. She was my inspiration for Red Wine Supernova,” as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Bardot is referenced in the lyrics: “She was a playboy, Brigitte Bardot / She showed me things I didn’t know.”
However, that post was deleted and replaced with a new one on Monday (29 December) that read: “Holy s*** I did not know all that insane s*** Ms. Bardot stood for. Obvs I do not condone this. Very disappointing to learn.”

After leaving the film industry behind at 39, Bardot turned to animal welfare and activism.
However, she also expressed political views that aligned her with the far-right supporting French politicians such as Marine Le Pen.
After writing that Muslims were “destroying [France] by imposing their ways” in 2008, Bardot was fined for inciting racial hatred. It was her fifth such fine.

She has also been criticised over a comparison between homosexuals and paedophiles.
The BBC also reports her as having said of gay men that they “jiggle their bottoms, put their little fingers in the air, and with their little castrato voices moan about what those ghastly heteros put them through”.
Bardot also spoke out against the #MeToo Movement describing it as “hypocritical, ridiculous, uninteresting”. She also said in 2018: “I thought it was nice to be told that I was beautiful or that I had a nice little a**.”
