It’s here, the Stranger Things 5 finale trailer. As the Abyss descends upon our heroes, Netflix has released a final trailer and everyone’s saying the same thing.

The final episode of Stranger Things (not counting upcoming animated series or spin-offs) is set to debut on New Year’s Day (in the UK, New Year’s Eve in the US – other release times are available here) and will see our heroes face one last fight against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and his forces.

The second volume ended with Hopper (David Harbour) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) leading the heroes into the Upside Down.

On Tuesday (30 December) Netflix released a trailer narrated by Hopper who says: “I need you to fight one last time.”

As well as flashing back to previous seasons the trailer shows glimpses of the action set to unfurl in the two-hour plus finale.

Among them are shots of who we think is Hopper with Vecna (worryingly) behind him, a screaming Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) as well as the Abyss, the world on the other side of the Upside Down, coming into view from the sky.

It’s all so thrilling, hyping us up without giving away too much and leaving plenty of room for surprises.

And through all the speculation about who may die, the trailer has got everyone saying one thing: It’s sad to be saying goodbye.

Stranger Things first aired on Netflix in July 2016. And nine years and five seasons later, we’re at the end.
