Pedro Pascal returns in The Mandalorian and Grogu as Super Bowl trailer airs

Pedro Pascal appears in The Mandalorian and Grogu

Sunday (8 February) was a good day for Pedro Pascal, who not only got to join Bad Bunny during his Halftime Show but also saw a new trailer released for The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The upcoming film is a continuation of the popular Star Wars Disney+ series, The Mandalorian. Pascal stars as Din Djarin, a bounty hunter/Mandalorian warrior who is now the paternal figure to Grogu, a young (50-something-year-old) Force user affectionately known to audiences as ‘Baby Yoda’.

The brief teaser is a bespoke ad rather than a conventional trailer for the film which will be in cinemas on 22 May. Playing like a commercial, Djarin and Grogu ride in a cart being pulled by Tauntauns. The animals were first introduced in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back. It also appears, judging by the snowy setting, that Djarin and Grogu are on Hoth, also introduced in the fifth (chronologically speaking) Star Wars film.

At first Djarin holds the reins but passes them over to Grogu who uses The Force to take them.

Meanwhile, a narrator says: “Sometimes we choose our path, other times the path chooses us. Through it all, we keep pushing forwards, driven by a deeper purpose, guided by an unseen force. The journey never gets any easier, the bond just gets harder to break.”

Finally the narrator adds the iconic line from The Mandalorian: “This is the way.” This references a creed by which Djarin and his band of fellow Mandalorians warriors live by.

Variety reports Jackson George, Disney’s executive VP of creative marketing, as saying: “This Big Game spot celebrates how deeply we love and connect with these characters, reminds us of the fun, heart, and spectacle that defines Star Wars, and offers a bite-sized promise of the experience audiences will get when they see these two beloved icons on the big screen.”

If the light-hearted nature of the ad is anything to go by, then audiences can expect The Mandalorian and Grogu to feature more of the humour and warmth from the TV series. As well as Pascal, the film, set after the events of Return of the Jedi, will also stars Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen-White.

An earlier trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu showed more of what the film will look like including daring action, dramatic set pieces, and alien species old and new, as is typical of Star Wars.
